Amagi Field Seminar House
The Izu Peninsula is located in a volcanic zone which constitutes a part of the Southern Fossa Magna region and the Fuji volcanic zone. The eastern region of the peninsula still has much volcanic activity. The last major one occurred off the coast of Ito in July 1989, when a volcano deep in the seabed erupted and formed a submarine volcano called gTeishi Kaikyuh made big news. The volcano brought geographic fortune to the peninsula as numerous hot springs, gold mines and famous falls. Precipitation of this area is the highest along with Mt. Fuji and Akaishi Mountains in the Shizuoka Prefecutre, which has grown plant communities of subtropical rainforest and the natural Buna woods. Our seminar house, located in full of nature at central Izu Peninsula, is a facility for field research and seminar. Many scenic places are close to the seminar house as gJoren Waterfallsh, gTaroh - Japanese Cedar, gShowa Foresth.

This seminar house used not only for our educational research activities, but also for cultural activities by the locals. In summer a nature observation seminar for children is held by the university staffs. We hope this opportunity provides a good relationship with the residents of Yugashima Town. Furthermore, this seminar house is available to the people outside the university for research activities and seminars use.
