Headquarters for Promotion of Interdisciplinary Domain Research

Message from Prof. Takayuki Saito

The activities of the Headquarters for Promotion of Interdisciplinary Domain Research has begun in academic year 2011. The environment surrounding the world’s universities have recently been going through significant changes. Although the essence of education and research hasn’t changed, courage to incorporate these changes for the growth of the universities, especially at our nation’s national universities is called for. Further university reforms that go beyond the “National University Reform Plan” and “the Redefining of Missions,” seem necessary. Shizuoka University has also been implementing university reforms starting with the Project for Promoting the Strengthening of National University Reforms, “The strengthening of global human resource development functions through university-wide education and organization reforms - Target: The construction of Asian human resource bases.” (Asia Bridge Program).
The Headquarters for Promotion of Interdisciplinary Domain Research is further promoting the following: The creation of marked results through cooperation among the 4 fields of priority research (Asian studies, Extreme Imaging Science, Nanobio Science, Green Science and Technology), the existing mission set forth in the 2nd midterm plan, and the development of new research domains through cooperation and integration that go beyond the priority research, as well as the development of internationally competent researchers.
The organization of the Headquarters for Promotion of Interdisciplinary Domain Research is different from the traditional departments. As a university-wide cross-sectoral organization, we are working on becoming the heart of the framework for strengthening the research capabilities of Shizuoka University. We therefore ask for your support.
