Shizuoka University had the pleasure of welcoming two researchers visiting through an Erasmus+ mobility program from Iași University of Life Sciences (IULS), Romania: Prof. Liviu-Dan Miron, Vice-Rector for Scientific Research and International Relations, and Assoc. Prof. Iuliana Motrescu, from the Research Institute for Agriculture and Environment— a PhD graduate of the Double Degree Program between Shizuoka University and Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, Romania.

Their visit began at the Shizuoka Campus, where the researchers interacted with colleagues and students from the Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Sciences, and also met Prof. Koichiro Awai , Vice-President for International Strategy. During the meeting, both parties discussed future collaboration opportunities between Shizuoka University and IULS, with an emphasis on joint research and faculty and student mobility. Prof. Miron and Dr. Motrescu also delivered guest lectures introducing their respective research fields.

The researchers then visited the Hamamatsu Campus, where they delivered several lectures for students from different Departments of the Faculty of Engineering. Multiple interactions with colleagues from different units—Research Institute of Green Science and Technology (RIGST), Research Institute of Electronics (RIE), Faculty of Engineering, and our Graduate Schools—addressed various possibilities for specific collaboration and cooperation at different levels. The possibility of extending the Erasmus+ mobilities and establishing double-degree program PhD opportunities has been some of the topics in discussion.

Their visit also included a presentation on IULS and its academic programs, held at the International Lounge, which offered Shizuoka students valuable insights into study and research opportunities in Romania.

The visitors also conducted an extensive Scientific Seminar for Interdisciplinary Research Development at the Research Institute of Electronics (RIE), welcoming a broad audience from different backgrounds.
Prof. Liviu-Dan Miron presented on “Research with Underwater Lab Regarding Some Hydrobionts’ Behaviour and Pathology”, highlighting IULS's advances in aquaculture and environmental research, after introducing Romania and Iasi in more detail.
Assoc. Prof. Iuliana Motrescu delivered a lecture on “Non-Thermal Plasma Applications at IULS”, drawing on her cross-disciplinary expertise in plasma physics and biomaterial science—fields in which she has continued her work since her PhD and postdoctoral research at Shizuoka University.

This visit not only reaffirmed the strong academic ties, between Shizuoka University and IULS, but also laid the groundwork for future joint initiatives in education, interdisciplinary research, and internationalization. We look forward to further strengthening this partnership and expanding collaborative opportunities with Iasi University of Life Sciences as another key partner in Romanian academia.
