On March 2, 2026, President Kazuyuki Hizume, Vice Presidents Noriyasu Sato and Koichiro Awai, and Professor Noriko Matsuda (Organization for International Collaboration) visited Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), India. Established in 1969 in the southern part of New Delhi and named after India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, JNU is a graduate university with its academic programs at the graduate level except for languages. It is known for its research with a focus on liberal arts and applied sciences and is considered India’s top research institution, especially in the field of social sciences. Representing JNU at the signing ceremony was Professor P. R. Kumaraswamy, Director of International Collaboration: President Hizume signed and concluded the inter-university agreement. Professor Srabani Roy Choudhury, who received the 2024 Foreign Minister’s Commendation for her contributions to the promotion of Japanese studies in India, was also in attendance, and discussions were held on future exchanges.

*This agreement originated during preparations for applying this spring to the Ministry of Education’s "Inter-University Exchange Project (Promoting Inter-University Exchanges with Universities in India and Africa)”. When Professor Srabani Roy Choudhury visited Hamamatsu in June, at Suzuki Motor Corporation, for delivering lectures on human resource exchange, it was suggested that this was a valuable opportunity for Japan-India human resource exchange. Members of the Organization for International Collaboration attended a dinner meeting with her, which became the starting point for this development.
