President Hizume visited four partner universities and institutions in Indonesia

From July 20 to 23, 2026, President Kazuyuki Hizume and eight delegates visited four partner universities and institutions in Indonesia: Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI), Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), IPB University, and the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
During the visit, they signed new and renewed exchange agreements and held discussions on promoting future exchanges.

On July 20, the delegation visited Indonesia University of Education (UPI), where, in the presence of Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Agus Setiabudi, a signing ceremony was held for the renewal of the inter-university exchange agreement that has continued for more than 15 years. Active exchanges of opinions were also conducted regarding consideration of collaborative projects and promotion of exchanges between the two universities. In particular, Dean Yuko Kamazuka, Professor Takeshi Kono, Associate Professor Ayano Otaki, Associate Professor Akira Yukita, and Vice Principal Toshiyuki Komatsu of the Affiliated Shizuoka Elementary School, all from the Faculty of Education, which has promoted exchanges with UPI since around 2000, discussed future collaborative projects with faculty members in language education, engineering education, and mathematics and science education over the two days of July 20 and 21. They also visited the affiliated elementary, junior high, and high schools and discussed exchanges of both universities’ affiliated schools, with specific schedules and plans being considered.

Also on July 21, President Hizume, Trustee / Vice President and Secretary General Noriyasu Sato, Vice President (International Strategy) Koichiro Awai, and Professor Noriko Matsuda (Organization for International Collaboration) visited Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB). They met with Vice Rector Dr. A. Rikrik Kusmara and the deans of the faculties of Mathematical Sciences, Life Sciences, Engineering and Informatics, and Design. Opinions were exchanged regarding various student exchange programs and initiatives aimed at matching opportunities for joint research.

On July 22, the delegation visited IPB University (Bogor Agricultural University). After touring the Science and Technology Park, they were welcomed by Rector Dr. Alim Setiawan Slamet, and a signing ceremony for an inter-university exchange agreement was held (the Faculty of Agriculture of Shizuoka University had already concluded a faculty-level agreement with the Faculty of Forestry of IPB in 2014). Subsequently, Vice President Awai gave a presentation introducing Shizuoka University. Interest was shown in common research themes, and active discussions were held regarding the promotion of future student exchanges.

On July 23, the delegation visited National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN) in Jakarta. Dr. Arif Satria, Chairman of BRIN, and Dr. Edy Giri Rachman Putra, Deputy Chairman, introduced the role and initiatives of BRIN. From our university, Vice President Awai gave a presentation introducing Shizuoka University. In addition, former international students of Shizuoka University who are now active as BRIN researchers gathered at the venue, making it possible to observe the achievements of our university’s alumni.
